ATTLEBORO — Attleboro Fire Chief Scott T. Lachance reports that Attleboro Firefighters battled a structure fire in extreme heat on Tuesday afternoon.

At approximately 3:30 PM, the Attleboro Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 118 Fairway Drive.

First-arriving crews encountered smoke showing from a two-story residence.

The fire originated in the garage and extended into the attic, making it challenging for crews to access and extinguish. Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control in approximately 30 minutes. Due to heavy heat and smoke conditions, crews were forced to cut a hole in the roof to ventilate the structure and release trapped gases.

Firefighters contended with not only the intense heat from the fire itself, but also record setting outdoor temperatures.

“Fighting fire is always demanding, but extreme weather like today’s makes it even more dangerous,” said Assistant Chief Dennis Perkins. “Our crews pushed through brutal heat in full gear to stop this fire from spreading further. It’s a testament to their training and dedication to protecting this community.”

The Attleboro Fire Investigation Unit remains on scene to determine the cause of the fire. Crews are continuing to monitor for hot spots.

No injuries have been reported at this time.
