ATTLEBORO — Chief Scott T. Lachance reports that the Attleboro Fire Department responded Friday to multiple brush fires, all of which are now extinguished, though high fire danger remains across Massachusetts.
Amid a Red Flag Warning issued by the National Weather Service due to extreme fire danger, the Attleboro Fire Department and its mutual aid partners responded to brush fires from 1-5 p.m. in the area of York Drive, West Street, Raymond Drive, Newport Avenue and Interstate 95.
The York Drive fire burned three or four acres. The West Street fire burned about two acres. The Raymond Drive fire burned about half an acre, and the Newport Avenue and Interstate 95 fires burned less than half an acre each.
There were no reported injuries, and no property damage reported, though the York Avenue fire came close to homes before firefighters were able to contain it.
The Attleboro Fire Department was supported by mutual aid from fire departments in North Attleboro, Seekonk, Pawtucket, Plainville, Rehoboth and Norton.
The cause of the fires remains under investigation by the Attleboro Fire Department.
