ATTLEBORO — Chief Scott T. Lachance reports that the Attleboro Fire Department responded to a two-alarm fire early Saturday morning at a commercial manufacturing facility.
On Saturday, Nov. 1, at approximately 12:44 a.m., the Attleboro Fire Department responded to 113 Olive St. for a fire alarm activation.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered an exterior fire that had spread into the interior of a large commercial building occupied by a company that manufactures a wide range of paints, primers, and finishers.
Crews found significant fire inside the building that had activated multiple sprinkler heads and burned through the second-floor level. A second alarm was struck, bringing additional resources to the scene.
Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack and were able to bring the fire under control in approximately 25 minutes. The fire was contained to one area of the building.
“This is a large building with manufacturing operations that require various materials to complete,” said Assistant Chief Dennis Perkins. “The quick actions of crews stopped this from becoming a much larger incident.”
District Chief Gerry Brogan added, “The wind made this much harder to fight. Every time a large gust came through, you could see the fire intensify.”
The Attleboro Building Inspector and Electrical Inspector were called to the scene. The company was required to maintain a fire watch until the fire protection systems could be restored to service.
The Attleboro Fire Investigation Unit responded to the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but early findings indicate that it began outside and spread to the interior.
Crews remained on scene until approximately 2:23 a.m.
Mutual aid was provided on scene and for station coverage by the Pawtucket, Seekonk, and Rehoboth Fire Departments.
During the same time period, Attleboro firefighters also responded to 9 Romoli Ave. for a large branch that fell onto a home, causing significant roof damage.
