ATTLEBORO — A vehicle traveled through a wooded area and came to rest in a neighbor’s backyard Monday afternoon, prompting a response from the Attleboro Fire Department.
On Monday, June 22, at approximately 2:26 p.m., the Attleboro Fire Department was dispatched to the area of Rachael Drive for a report of a vehicle in the woods.
Upon arrival, crews discovered a vehicle in the backyard of a residence on Captain Courtois Drive. The sole occupant and driver, a man in his 70s, was found outside the vehicle on the ground. Firefighters and paramedics immediately began providing medical care.
The vehicle was traveling on Rachael Drive when it left the roadway. The vehicle traveled approximately 75 feet through a wooded area, struck and damaged a fence, passed through a small stone fire pit, and came to rest in the backyard.
“It’s fortunate the incident did not have a more serious outcome,” said Lt. Gerry Normandin. “The vehicle traveled a considerable distance off the roadway and narrowly missed multiple trees before coming to a stop. Given the path the vehicle took, damage was limited.”
The driver was transported to Rhode Island Hospital.
No firefighter injuries were reported. Crews remained on scene until approximately 2:45 p.m.
The Attleboro Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash.
