ATTLEBORO – With rain and strong winds expected in our area, the Attleboro Fire Department is asking residents to take a few precautions now and use caution as conditions develop.
Before the storm arrives, charge phones and other electronic devices, make sure you have flashlights and extra batteries available, and have medications, water and other essentials on hand in case of a power outage. Secure outdoor furniture, decorations, trash barrels and anything else that could be blown around by strong winds.
If you are able to safely do so, please clear leaves and debris from storm drains near your property. Keeping drains clear can help water flow properly and reduce localized street flooding during periods of heavy rain.
A few important reminders:
• Never drive through a flooded roadway. Turn around and find another route.
• Stay away from downed trees, utility poles and wires. Always assume any downed wire is LIVE.
• Never use a generator, grill or other fuel-burning equipment inside your home, garage or other enclosed area. Generators should remain outdoors and away from doors, windows and vents.
• Avoid unnecessary travel when weather conditions are at their worst.
