ATTLEBORO — The Attleboro Fire Department is advising residents to take necessary precautions in advance of a forecasted Nor’easter expected to impact the region within the next 24–48 hours. Current projections indicate the storm may bring up to 2 inches of rainfall, along with the potential for localized flooding, gusty winds, and hazardous travel.
“While our department is fully staffed and prepared to respond to emergencies throughout the duration of the storm, we ask the community to do their part by preparing in advance and avoiding unnecessary risks,” said Assistant Chief Dennis Perkins.
Recommended safety measures include:
- Avoid Flooded Roadways: Never attempt to drive through standing water. It can be deeper and more dangerous than it appears.
- Inspect and Maintain Sump Pumps: Homeowners should ensure that basement sump pumps are operational to help prevent flooding.
- Secure Outdoor Property: Bring in or anchor outdoor furniture, trash bins, and other items that may become hazards in high winds.
- Clear Storm Drains and Gutters: Remove leaves and debris to ensure proper drainage and reduce the risk of street or property flooding.
- Stay Away from Downed Power Lines: Treat all downed wires as live and dangerous. Keep at least 30 feet away and call 911 to report the hazard.
- Prepare for Potential Power Outages: Have flashlights, batteries, and essential supplies on hand. Charge devices and medical equipment in advance.
- Stay Informed: Monitor trusted local news sources and the National Weather Service for updates and advisories.
