ATTLEBORO, MA — Attleboro Fire Department paramedics and lifeguards from the Attleboro Recreation Department teamed up this week for joint CPR, AED, and water rescue training at the Spatcher Memorial pool. This hands-on session focused on preparing both teams for critical emergencies where every second counts.
While Attleboro’s lifeguards are trained extensively in water safety, CPR, and rescue procedures, the need to use those skills is thankfully rare. On the other hand, Attleboro Fire paramedics are called to medical emergencies daily. This partnership helps bridge the gap between preparedness and response.
“This is a low-frequency, high-risk scenario,” said Lt. Corey Blais of the Attleboro Fire Department. “Training together improves our efficiency and communication between departments. In situations where time matters, seconds count.”
During the training, both departments worked side by side to practice coordinated responses, from water extractions to performing CPR and using the AED. The goal was to ensure smooth transitions between lifeguard rescues and arriving EMS personnel, reinforcing a shared understanding of roles, equipment, and communication on scene.
“This type of interdepartmental training strengthens not just our emergency response,” Lt. Blais added, “but the safety net we provide to the public. The better we work together, the better outcomes we can deliver.”
The Attleboro Fire Department and Recreation Department hold thig joint training annually.
