ATTLEBORO, MA — The Attleboro Fire Department is preparing for a significant winter storm expected to impact the area from Sunday into Monday. Forecasts indicate snowfall accumulations of up to 18 inches, with the potential for higher amounts. The region has not experienced this level of snowfall in a single storm in several years.
The Attleboro Fire Department has been closely monitoring the storm and is working in coordination with other City departments to ensure continuity of operations and public safety. Increased staffing levels will be in place throughout the duration of the storm to support emergency response.
An Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has been established to coordinate emergency response efforts and maintain normal fire department operations. A storm assistance line will be activated at 7 p.m. on Sunday. Residents may call 774-203-1991 for non-emergency storm-related assistance during those hours.
The City’s Emergency Management Team is prepared to open warming centers and/or emergency shelters should conditions require it. If shelters are opened, locations will be posted on the City of Attleboro website and the Attleboro Fire Department website. Residents may also contact Attleboro Fire Dispatch at 774-203-1991 for information regarding shelter availability.
A citywide parking ban is in effect. Residents are urged to stay off roadways whenever possible to allow snow removal operations to proceed efficiently and to ensure access for emergency vehicles.
Winter Storm Safety Advisories
The Attleboro Fire Department reminds residents to follow these important safety guidelines during and after the storm:
- Do not approach downed power lines. Always assume they are energized and dangerous. Report them to 9-1-1.
- Use generators safely. Generators must be operated outdoors only, away from doors, windows, and vents.
- Test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to ensure they are working properly, especially when using alternative heating sources.
- Keep exterior exhaust and intake vents clear of snow to prevent the buildup of dangerous gases inside the home.
- Clear fire hydrants. If there is a hydrant in front of or near your home, please shovel a minimum 3-foot clearance around it to allow rapid access during an emergency.
Residents are reminded to always call 9-1-1 for any emergency, including medical needs or storm-related incidents.
