ATTLEBORO — The Attleboro Fire Department quickly extinguished a kitchen fire Monday morning, preventing the fire from spreading to the remainder of the apartment.
On Monday, Aug. 31, just before 10 a.m., crews were dispatched to 49 South Ave. for a reported oven fire.
Upon arrival, firefighters found an active fire involving the stovetop that had extended to a nearby box being used for storage. Crews quickly extinguished the fire and removed the stove from the unit.
Damage was contained to a small area of the kitchen. Firefighters remained on scene to ventilate the apartment and remove smoke from the unit.
“This is a large residential complex with many elderly and disabled residents,” District Chief Michael Maitland said. “Crews were able to quickly contain the fire to the kitchen and prevent it from spreading. A fire in a building like this has the potential to become a much more complex incident, and the quick response helped prevent that from happening.”
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Attleboro Fire Investigation Unit.
