EXTREME HEAT WATCH ISSUED

UPDATE: ATTLEBORO COOLING CENTERS OPENING

Due to the ongoing extreme heat, the City of Attleboro will open cooling centers on Thursday, July 2, and Friday, July 3 for residents who do not have access to air conditioning. The centers are free to use, and no reservations are required. We also encourage everyone to check on elderly neighbors, family members, and others who may be especially vulnerable to the heat. A simple phone call or visit can make a significant difference during periods of dangerously high temperatures.

Cooling Center Locations

Thursday, July 2
Council on Aging
25 South Main St.
8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Friday, July 3
South Attleboro Fire Station

Attleboro is expected to experience dangerously hot temperatures over the coming days. High heat and humidity can quickly lead to heat-related illnesses, especially for older adults, young children, individuals with chronic medical conditions, and anyone working or exercising outdoors.

Here are a few simple steps to stay safe:

• Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
• Limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, typically between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.
• Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.
• Take frequent breaks in air-conditioned buildings or shaded areas.
• Never leave children, older adults, or pets unattended in a vehicle, even for a few minutes.
• Check on elderly family members, neighbors, and anyone who may not have access to air conditioning.
• Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. If someone becomes confused, loses consciousness, or has a body temperature above 103°F, call 911 immediately.

If you must work outdoors:
• Stay hydrated.
• Take frequent rest breaks in the shade.
• Work with a partner whenever possible.
• Watch for signs of heat illness in yourself and your coworkers.

The Attleboro Fire Department encourages everyone to plan ahead and take precautions before temperatures peak. A few simple steps can prevent an emergency.
